The Cairns Hang Gliding club is not just for Hang Glider pilots! We are a club for Hang Glider, Microlight and Paraglider pilots. Our club is for everyone with a passion for flying!

The main flying site for the Cairns Hang-Gliding club is the Rex Lookout on the coast road from Cairns to Port Douglas. The microlighters frequently do trips away to places like Cooktown, Chillagoe, and Dunk Island.

Notice 20201008:

The weather station is back in operation and displaying accurate readings. You will find that there is now a new version of the interface software, much better than the previous version. It works quite well but there are still a few issues of which we are still trying to sort out with the weather service provider.

Here is the bad:

  • Daylight saving has made all of the readings one hour ahead of what they really are.
  • The Graph is currently stopping at 2pm each day for some unknown reason but resets at midnight.
  • If you change the duration to less than 1 day nothing is displayed until you click the >I button.
  • The page is not imbedded here on the CHGC website so if you want to add as a Bookmark/Favourite don’t bookmark the destination page with the graphs, this is the service providers page, but manually add this link:
Or return here to the CHGC website and then click ‘Live Weather’ in the menu to the left.

  • To the right of the graphs are three dots “…” click here and select  Chart. This will give you a text display of all the readings. Scroll to the bottom to read the most resent.
If you can’t see the text, click the “X” at the top right of the screen to reveal the text table hiding behind (this seems to only happen on phones).

The Good:

  • Works much better on a phone or tablet.
  • If you select along the graph it displays the details of that point in time, much like Seabreeze does.
  • The measurements are extremely close to what is happening at Launch.

In summary, its back up and working well. Have a play with the interface as it has some good features which are not always obvious.

Again many thanks for your patience, CHGC!
